Michaela Bailey is a New York–based filmmaker, director, and creative technologist working at the intersection of storytelling, virtual production, and emerging media. With a background spanning theatre, cinematography, post-production, and digital content creation, her work explores how new technologies can deepen emotional storytelling and reshape the future of film production.

Originally trained as an actor, Bailey’s creative path evolved through directing, editing, and cinematography, leading to a focus on virtual production and immersive filmmaking. She has collaborated on projects across film, theatre, and digital media, creating content for artists, educators, theatre companies, and online platforms. Her work ranges from directing stage productions and projection-driven performances to editing educational media and developing visually driven narrative worlds.

Bailey is currently pursuing advanced training through NYU Tisch School of the Arts’s Martin Scorsese Virtual Production Center, where she focuses on cinematography, LED volume workflows, motion capture, and the evolving relationship between technology and performance. Inspired by both classical filmmaking and emerging tools like Unreal Engine and AI-assisted workflows, she is particularly interested in collaborative world-building, virtual art direction, and the future of cinematic storytelling.

Her creative philosophy combines technical curiosity with emotional authenticity—drawing equally from theatre rehearsal rooms, film sets, and experimental production labs. Whether building projection-heavy stage work, shaping short-form digital content, or exploring virtual environments, Bailey approaches storytelling as both an artistic and technological craft.
